    Development studies is the academic discipline which addresses issues of concern to developing nations. The emergence of development studies as an academic discipline in the second half of the twentieth century is in large part due to increasing concern about economic prospects for the third world after decolonisation. While it originally emerged as a branch of economics, development economics, it has become an increasingly inter- and multi-disciplinary subject, encompassing politics, sociology, geography, social anthropology and international relations. Development studies is offered as a specialised Master’s degree in a number of universities, and, less commonly, as an undergraduate degree. Students of development studies often choose careers in international organisations such as United Nations, non-governmental organisations, the World Bank, and research centres.

    잘 지내고 있습니다

    어제 사우디에서 홍해를 건너 이집트로 들어오던 여객선이 침몰해 많은 사람들이 실종된 안타까운 사건이 있었습니다. 비록 사건의 현장과 멀리 떨어져 살고 있지만, 이런 일이 있으면 멀리 있는 사랑하는 사람들에게 염려를 끼치게 된다는 것을 잘 알고 있기에 안부를 올립니다.

    저희는 여객선 침몰이라는 안타까운 사건에 직접적인 영향을 받고 있지 않으며 무사히 잘 지내고 있습니다.

    6일부터는 영어 학원을 다니게 되었고 아랍어는 영어코스의 2배나 비싸 잠시 보류하게 되었습니다. 걸어다닐 수 있는 가까운 거리에 좋은 학원이 있어 등록하게 되었습니다. 요즘은 영어 신문을 읽는 일에 재미를 붙이고 있는데, 점점 속도가 빨라지는 것 같아 좋습니다.

    9일~12일까지는 잠시 여행을 다녀옵니다. 좋은 기회가 생겨서 다녀오게 될 것 같습니다. 지원한 학교로부터는 아직 소식이 없고 길게는 8주 정도 기다려야 한다고 하니 늦어도 2월말까지는 결과를 들을 수 있을 것 같습니다. 몇 개 학교를 더 알아보고 지금이라도 지원할까? 하는 생각도 있지만, 어떻게 해야할지? 잘 모르겠습니다. 그럼 모두 안녕히.
